Monday Lovin’ SB2014: Teacher Edition Recap

Today is a special SPECIAL Monday, because it’s the last first Monday of a new quarter this school year!! WOOT WOOT! Bittersweet to think this school year is in its last hoorah, but definitely leaning towards the sweet side right now :) (And yes, I realize the whole “last first” thing sounds like it doesn’t work…but it does. Promise :) )

ANYWAY, I can’t believe Spring Break has come & gone! This year was a lot different than previous Spring Breaks, with the biggest difference being that it was my first one as a teacher and not a student! In college, Spring Break meant fun road-trips, frat tanks, beaches, junk food, and lots & lots of sun…

Freshman Year: Chicago trip with K-Swan :)

Sophomore Year: VA Beach & DC trip with the future hubs (So crazy!!!)Image

Junior Year: Frat Laudy with some of the best girls in the world :)Image

…and then Senior Year I had to do this little thing called student teaching…so of course I was stuck in B-town by myself with a bunch of 7th graders & research project essays. Oh the things we do to be teachers :)

BUT it all paid off because Teacher Spring Break is pretty awesome, let me tell you! Not only did I get to still throw a little road trip action in with Chris for Lauren’s wedding, but I also published my first wedding blog of 2014! Dave & Amanda’s wedding was the perfect way to start off a new year of bizz-ness: lots of fun, laughter, & romance — some of my favorite things! Plus there were lots of girl dates with teacher friends, plenty of netflix watching and book reading, and of course the never-ending grading & lesson planning!

But the BIGGEST event of SB2014 by far was saying goodbye to my wisdom teeth!!!! Those bad boys were supposed to come out pre-wedding…but I was super nervous, so I put it off as long as possible! So silly thinking about it now, because it was a BREEZE! Seriously, I am so thankful for great dentists & great drugs — ya feel me?! :) Unfortunately the hubs didn’t take any videos of me post-laughing gas, BUT I hear I was very expressive over the deep separation anxiety and pain my other teeth were feeling over the loss of their best buds: Wisdom 1 & Wisdom 2. Also, I wanted to make jewelry out of them? Definitely a new trend for sure :)

And that is my Spring Break in a nutshell! Lots of friends, lots of recouping, lots of love…AKA a perfect week :) How did you spend your first week of spring? Any other fun wisdom tooth recovery stories out there??

And, because I love leaving ya with a good thought or two…here’s some Monday soul food for you:

A great reminder for me in all things life right now — we all gotta start out somewhere! If there’s anything I’ve taken away from my pal Mark Batterson in his book “All In” (the book my church home group is going through this semester), it’s that the first step is ALWAYS the hardest. Our dreams and goals may seem impossible when viewing them from the beginning, but just remember — even the best had to start out fresh :) So here’s to taking first steps, skips, jumps, and even LEAPS — what are you waiting for?!?

Happy Monday! :)

Snowy Saturday

Hmm. So, I guess my Spring post was a little presumptive…because it is currently snowing on my spring parade!!! :( Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE a good snow flurry (just ask my hubs, I may or may not have watched Frozen 5 times this week…#springbreakprobz), and snow pictures are some of my favorites ever…

But, come ON Winter…enough is enough! We want Spring!!!! Lake breezes, freshly cut grass, sunny days, windows rolled down, Easter fun, flowers everywhere…BAH I can’t wait!!! So, to help us remember what we have to look forward to, I thought I’d post some of my favorite sunny photos from the last year or two. These get me so pumped for bright shoots & green green grass…Here’s to hoping we see Spring soon!

Bah, I just love all the warm colors, sun flair, and LAUGHTER!!! :) Come on Spring, we’re ready for you!!

Oh, and to celebrate my Frozen obsession, you should probably watch these hilarious videos too :)

Happy Saturday! :)

Monday Lovin’

It’s the start of the week. A Monday. And generally, this is how I feel about Mondays…

But having this mindset when the 8am bell rings & the kiddos start falling in (often tardy, I might add) really doesn’t help anything… So, I’ve decided to start off each week with a little life lovin’.

We have SO much to be thankful for, and, in my effort to be intentional with GRATITUDE, I’m going to attempt to move my emotions in a bit different, more positive, direction.

Because really, we are SO lucky. And we have ENOUGH. Our culture (cough cough) loves to tell us that we don’t, and that we just need a litttle more..but it’s such a lie! No cute rug or fun wall-art is going to make life easier, or better, or more fun. It’s the people around us, the experiences we share, the memories we make — those are what matter!

And, if I’m honest with you, between St. Patty’s Day, Makeup OGT day at work (helllooo delayed start to classes!), grabbing some Samoa’s from a student fundraiser, and finishing season 6 of Dexter with my hubs (OMG!!! CUE FREAK OUT!!), this Monday has actually been a pretty great day!

So today, I’m thankful for my teaching job. For the opportunity to impact kids’ lives even when I don’t realize it. For the worksheets and copy jams and data pushes and coughing germs and dried-out markers. Because I have a job. And that’s something to be grateful for.

I’m thankful for a fun weekend with my hubs & brother-in-law. If you checked out my instagram, you saw lots of posts of those cuties #twinning — it’s scary how much alike they are 300 miles apart and so incredibly fun to get to spend time with them together :)

I’m thankful for Mitchell’s ice cream, butternut squash, my purple-straw water cup, and the giggles I got to share with my hubs before he left for Monday night basketball.

I’m thankful for cell-phones and computers that let me stay in touch with those I love that are way way too far away (Nicole, I’m calling you back as soon as this posts!!) For my little brother who tries to face-time me at the most inconvenient times (like when I’m driving!) and my dad who never fails to like every single one of my photography posts.

I could go on and on, but to keep this semi-short, I’m going to end this list of Monday love with this:

These photos are actually from one of my first solo sessions EVER. I begged one of my good college friends and her fiance to let me take some engagement photos for them, and proceeded to totally space about this little thing known as Daylight Savings Time and the fact that I would lose the sun a whole hour earlier than expected. Needless to say, the session ended a lot earlier than I had planned. HA!

But ya know what? I love these pictures. No, they’re not perfect; and yes, I’m pretty sure I was super thrown-off & unclear when directing Jackie & Eli, but they still make me smile. I am so. thankful. for these photos, because they helped me get where I am today. So thanks you two, for letting your crazy friend from freshman year take pictures of you even when you hate getting your pictures taken :) And just for the record, you guys are crazy for hating getting your pictures taken, because even my newbie self couldn’t stop your photo cuteness!!!

So, I leave you with this thought: What can you be grateful for today? What (or who!) can we show a little extra appreciation for right now?

Oh yeah, and I’m also leaving you with another sneak peek from the Shelley wedding. Guys, I really REALLY can’t wait to show you all of these bad boys. OBSESSED!

Happy Monday!!!! :)
